When should I have skin boosters
When should I start having injectable skin boosters? Are you starting to think about skin boosters and whether they are right for you? Or maybe what is a good age to start having them, and equally, are they necessary, or even, do they work, etc? The questions can be endless.

As with any skincare treatment, I always suggest that you really think about what it is that you are trying to achieve with your skin. As an example, do you want to change the texture of your skin? Or is it fine lines and wrinkles that you want to reduce the appearance of? Or is it added hydration with a luminous glow that you desire? The skin concerns that you wish to treat will always depend on the treatments and products that will give you the best results. So with that in mind, let’s have a look at skin boosters, as these are perfect to help a wide range of skin concerns and skin conditions.

Youthful skin

What are skin boosters?

Firstly, let’s discuss what skin boosters actually are; they are an injectable treatment that aims to improve your skin quality, texture, hydration and boost the overall appearance of your skin. Consider skin boosters as having the most luxurious and result-driven skincare ingredients injected under your skin. Polyneucleotides can also be considered as skin boosters; however, for the benefit of this post, I will stick to the hyaluronic acid skin boosters.

How do they differ from traditional dermal fillers?

Don’t get skin boosters confused with traditional dermal fillers, as they are not the same. The traditional dermal fillers are chemically cross-linked and are used to add volume to your skin, to contour your face, or to change the shape of your face. Hyaluronic acid skin boosters are there to infuse the skin with ingredients such as hyaluronic acid, and other types of bioactive ingredients, which are there to nourish, improve and repair your skin, to increase the hydration, and add elasticity and radiance, to name but a few. Another difference between the two treatments is longevity. One injection of traditional dermal filler may last 12+ months. In contrast, skin boosters will last between 6-12 months, so you may need more regular treatments, and most certainly you will need two or three skin booster treatments initially.

What areas are skin boosters used on?

As boosters are designed to improve the overall quality of your skin, they aren’t just for your face, they can be used pretty much anywhere on the face and body. Skin boosters are perfect for firming crepy skin on your arms or legs, rejuvenation of the hands, face, neck, eyes, chest…. This is because they are fantastic at hydrating your skin and targeting dryness, so can be used in the above areas to really target this to not only hydrate, but help improve your collagen and elastin production, firm skin and increase radiance and even skin tone.

How do skin boosters work?

These injectable skin boosters are often high and low molecular weights of hyaluronic acid, which is a soft gel-like substance. Hyaluronic acid occurs naturally in your skin and is fantastic for locking in moisture and keeping your skin hydrated. However, it is reduced by several factors such as sun damage, age, genetics, smoking, or environmental factors, which can all lead to drier and more dehydrated skin. The boosters replace and restore the moisture in your skin, where the creams and serums can’t reach, and therefore, result in improved elasticity, firmness and radiance. The injections can also trigger your skin’s own repair, resulting in collagen production and better elasticity of your skin.

The benefits of injectable skin boosters:

Skin boosters have many advantages when it comes to your skin health and appearance, some of which include;

  • Increased hydration
  • Improved overall appearance of your skin – glowing skin
  • Fine lines and wrinkles are reduced, giving a smoother and improved skin texture
  • Natural-looking results
  • Increased skin elasticity
  • Stimulates collagen production
  • Healthier and more even skin tone

Injectable skin boosters that I use in treatment:

Seventy Hyal 2000– a vegan bio-stimulating skin booster that is intended to improve hydration levels within the skin for a luminous-looking complexion. Simultaneously, this skin booster stimulates the production of new collagen and elastin. Ultimately, Seventy Hyal 2000 aims to inject a radiant glow into the skin, creating a youthful-looking appearance and plumpness.

Profhilo– a revolutionary vegan ‘beneath the skin’ hyaluronic acid moisturising treatment made with the patented NAHYCO® technology. This results in a unique hyaluronic acid injectable gel, which has a prolonged stimulating activity on the dermal cells. When injected into the skin, Profhilo stimulates the skin cell receptors to counteract skin laxity, improve and restore firmness of the skin and increase hydration.

What are the side effects?

Skin boosters are generally a safe treatment that isn’t overly invasive, but they should always be carried out by a professional. However, in some cases, you may experience one or more small side effects, which may include;

  • Redness of your skin
  • Swelling of the treated area
  • Mild bruising
  • Tenderness in the area of injection
  • Tiny bumps (which will normally disappear after a day or two)
  • Mild itching or skin sensitivity

Side effects of skin boosters are often very short-lived and may only last a few hours to a few days.

How much does it cost?

You may be thinking that skin boosters are the right treatment for you, so you want to know what the investment would be and here is a guideline of my pricing;

seventy hyal, booster,
Seventy Hyal 2000 – costs per treatment

£170 – 2ml (example – lower face or top lip and around the mouth)
£250 – 4ml (example – face and neck)
£320 – 6ml (example – face, neck and decollete)

I recommend 2 to 3 treatments, which are spaced 4 weeks apart. (Depending on skin quality). Treatments will need to be topped up every 6-12 months thereafter.

Profhilo
Face – £250 per treatment
Neck – £250 per treatment

2 x  treatments are required, which are to be spaced 4 weeks apart. Treatments need to be topped up every 6-12 months.

When should I start having skin boosters?

The question of when is the right time to start having skin boosters is really down to you.  You don’t need to wait for any visible signs of ageing to start having skin boosters — many people in their late 20s to early 30s use them preventatively. But equally, they’re a brilliant treatment at any age to restore glow and hydration. Think of them as a boost, not a basic — not mandatory, but incredibly effective if you’re investing in skin longevity.
