Ageing by years
20’s – The skin is still plump but compared to the teens, dead skin cells are not shed as quickly. Already the process is slower than the ideal 28-day cycle. The production of collagen and elastin slows after the age
of 25.
30’s – Cellular turnover slows down and dead cells fill the outer layer. This is worsened by the sun, pollution, air conditioning and stress. Collagen fibres are not as meshed as before and elastin coils slacken. Smiling
and frowning cause fat deep in the skin to be pushed into the trenches, forming wrinkles.
40’s – Sebum production is greatly reduced and dead skin cells desquamate less effectively, causing the skin to look grey, dull and patchy. Expression lines are clearly visible.
50’s – Accumulated sun damage is visible. At this age the skin is commonly plagued by deep wrinkles, age spots, spider veins and skin tags. Lower estrogen production decreases the amount of glycosaminoglycans
(GAGs) in the skin, making it feel very dry.
