Now, there is no denying that pigmentation can be one of the most challenging skin conditions to treat for skin therapists. The Cosmelan peel is the perfect solution for Melasma which is extremely hard to combat, but I honestly think I have found the solution to this problem.

It’s not the cheapest treatment by any stretch, but it is the most effective. There is downtime associated with Cosmelan. It’s not a treatment to have if you have some social gatherings within a few weeks of having the in-salon peel, not unless you like the attention, that is. It’s probably not a good idea to have it immediately before starting a new job either, as you may get some strange looks.
There is quite a lot of skin prep required beforehand. You will need to use specific skincare products for at least two weeks before the required in-salon preparation peel, which is two days before the Cosmelan 1 peel is applied, but it is all effortless and straightforward.
On the day of the Cosmelan 1 peel, after the few minutes it takes to apply the peel, you will leave the salon looking like you have facepalmed a pile of mud (as the peel is brown). Depending on your Fitzpatrick skin type, you will have to keep the Cosmelan 1 peel on your face for up to 12 hours, so it’s best to ensure you don’t have any errands to run or kiddies to collect from school – unless it’s Halloween of course!
Surprisingly all this so far is the easy part. It’s the subsequent few weeks post-treatment that are the hardest.
So, once you have removed the peel at home, what happens next?
Well, the chances are your skin will look and feel as red and as flat as a hot roasted chilli, then over the next day or two, your skin will start to shed like a snake, it may feel and look cracked and sore, but there are homecare products you can use to alleviate this effect. You may look in the mirror and think, ‘What on earth have you done to me, Bev?’ but that thought will be a distant memory once the new clear skin starts to show through.
Still, it’s not instant, it will take a little time, and you will go through every colour of the rainbow to get to clear skin. Oh, and I guess I’ll be called every naughty name under the sun in the meantime!
This treatment isn’t for the fainthearted, but my goodness, it is THE BEST treatment for reducing severe pigmentation.
