Stimulating Collagen Through Controlled Radiofrequency Energy
Radiofrequency treatment technology is used to gently warm the deeper layers of the skin, stimulating collagen activity, firmness, and supporting overall skin function. Controlled thermal stimulation encourages collagen fibres to contract and promotes fibroblast activity responsible for producing collagen and elastin. Over time, this process helps improve skin firmness, elasticity and overall skin quality.
At The Beauty Bistro, different radiofrequency technologies may be used depending on your skin’s presentation and treatment objectives. Each system works slightly differently within the skin, allowing treatment to be adapted appropriately.
Monopolar Radiofrequency
Monopolar radiofrequency delivers energy through a single electrode, allowing the current to travel deeper through the tissue before returning through the system. This creates a broader heating pattern within the deeper dermal layers and the upper subcutaneous tissue.
This deeper stimulation can help support skin structure and firmness by encouraging collagen contraction and promoting long-term collagen remodelling. Monopolar radiofrequency is often selected where improvement in skin laxity, firmness or overall skin integrity is the primary treatment focus. During treatment, the skin is gently warmed with conductive gel, allowing energy to move comfortably through the tissue while the skin’s surface remains protected.
Tripolar Radiofrequency
Tripolar radiofrequency uses small quad electrodes positioned on the treatment head. Instead of travelling deeply through the tissue, the energy moves between the electrodes to create controlled heating within the dermal layer of the skin. This targeted stimulation encourages collagen activity while improving skin texture, tone and overall skin quality. Because the energy remains concentrated within the dermis, tripolar radiofrequency is particularly effective for refining fine lines, improving skin smoothness and supporting overall skin rejuvenation. Treatment produces a comfortable warming sensation and is well-suited to areas where more focused dermal stimulation is beneficial.
Choosing the Appropriate Technology
Both monopolar and tripolar radio frequency devices stimulate collagen and support skin regeneration; however, they act at slightly different depths within the skin. Monopolar radiofrequency focuses on deeper structural support within the skin, while tripolar radiofrequency delivers more concentrated stimulation within the dermal layer to refine texture and skin quality.
Radiofrequency technologies are incorporated into my Bespoke Facial Skin Treatments where appropriate. These technologies are not offered as standalone treatments but are used as supportive modalities within a personalised facial treatment plan. Their inclusion is guided by professional skin assessment and treatment objectives, allowing the skin to receive targeted stimulation that supports collagen activity, improves skin firmness and enhances overall skin quality as part of a comprehensive facial skin treatment.
