Where Advanced Depigmentation Therapy Restores Skin Uniformity

Cosmelan is a structured depigmentation programme designed to regulate excessive melanin production and progressively restore a clearer, more even skin tone. It does not simply exfoliate the surface of the skin. Its primary action focuses on regulating melanocyte activity, the cells responsible for producing melanin, in order to reduce abnormal pigment formation at its source.

Hyperpigmentation develops when melanin synthesis becomes dysregulated. This may occur due to hormonal fluctuation, ultraviolet exposure, inflammation, genetic predisposition or post-inflammatory response. Treating pigmentation effectively requires suppression of melanocyte overstimulation alongside controlled epidermal renewal.

Cosmelan works by inhibiting tyrosinase, the key enzyme involved in melanin production. By reducing tyrosinase activity, the programme decreases excessive pigment synthesis while simultaneously accelerating cellular turnover. This dual mechanism allows existing pigmentation to gradually lift while helping to prevent further accumulation. Over time, melanin activity becomes more regulated, supporting longer-term stability and reducing the likelihood of relapse.

In addition to pigment correction, the treatment promotes refinement of skin texture and overall clarity. As controlled resurfacing progresses, the complexion appears brighter, smoother and more uniform. The aim is not aggressive peeling but progressive regulation and visible improvement in tone through structured management.

Cosmelan is particularly effective for the management of melasma, post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, chloasma, solar lentigines and ephelides. It is suitable for a wide range of skin types when delivered within a carefully monitored clinical pathway.

Treatment Structure:

Cosmelan depigmentation is delivered as a staged programme rather than a single appointment.

The Cosmelan depigmentation process begins with a comprehensive consultation, including detailed assessment and clinical imaging to evaluate pigment distribution, depth, skin sensitivity and overall suitability. Once suitability is confirmed, a mandatory home preparation phase is initiated. The depigmenting preparation kit is used morning and evening for a minimum of four weeks to stabilise the skin, regulate melanocyte activity, and optimise treatment response.

Following the preparation phase, a Melanostop Peel is performed in the clinic to further condition the skin and enhance penetration of the depigmenting system.

Two weeks later, the Cosmelan 1 mask is applied in the clinic. This initiates the intensive depigmentation phase. The mask remains on the skin for six to eight hours and is removed at home according to the provided instructions. This stage marks the beginning of the visible corrective process.

A controlled inflammatory response is expected. Redness, tightness, dryness and progressive peeling may occur and can persist for several weeks. This is part of the corrective pathway and is carefully managed through structured aftercare and follow-up reviews.

Strict photoprotection is essential throughout the programme. Due to increased UV exposure, The Cosmelan Treatment is not recommended during the summer months. Ongoing home care remains critical for long-term pigment regulation, and continued use of the recommended products is advised for up to 12 months following treatment to maintain stability and reduce the risk of recurrence.

Supportive in-clinic treatments may be incorporated where appropriate to maintain barrier strength and optimise results during the recovery phase.
