Blemish Removal – Benign Skin Lesions
Blemish removal, also known as Advanced Cosmetic Procedures (ACP), provides a precise method of treating a wide range of benign skin lesions and vascular irregularities on the face and body. For those seeking blemish removal in Southampton, treatment is available for concerns including skin tags, milia, seborrhoeic keratoses, blood spots, red thread veins, spider naevi and several other common skin irregularities.
I use Sterex Advanced Electrolysis, which allows individual blemishes to be treated using a fine sterile probe and carefully controlled electrical current. The technique is adapted according to the type, size and location of the concern, allowing targeted treatment with minimal disruption to the surrounding skin.
What can be treated?
Advanced Cosmetic Procedures can treat:
Campbell de Morgan spots (blood spots)
Dermatosis papulosa nigra
Sebaceous hyperplasia
Syringoma
Xanthoma
Skin tags
Small benign moles*
Seborrhoeic keratosis
Red thread veins
Spider naevi
Milia
*Medical confirmation that the mole is benign is required before cosmetic mole removal can be undertaken.
Skin Tags and Milia
Skin tags are small, soft growths commonly found around the neck, underarms, beneath the breasts and other areas subject to friction. Although harmless, they can become irritated, catch on clothing or jewellery or simply be cosmetically unwanted.
Milia are small, firm, keratin-filled cysts that typically appear as white or cream-coloured bumps, particularly around the cheeks and eye area. As they do not have a natural opening at the skin’s surface, they can remain for prolonged periods.
Both can be treated following assessment, with the technique determined by their individual presentation.
Vascular Blemishes
Campbell de Morgan spots, red thread veins and spider naevi are vascular irregularities that become visible due to superficial blood vessels within the skin.
Campbell de Morgan spots, also known as blood spots or cherry angiomas, typically appear as small red or purple lesions and become increasingly common with age. Thread veins appear as fine visible vessels, frequently around the nose and cheeks, while spider naevi have a characteristic central red point with fine vessels radiating outwards.
Other Benign Skin Lesions
Seborrhoeic keratoses are common benign growths that can vary in colour, thickness and texture and often develop a characteristic raised appearance.
Sebaceous hyperplasia occurs when sebaceous glands become enlarged, usually creating small bumps on the face. Syringomas are small benign growths associated with sweat ducts and frequently occur around the eyes, while xanthomas appear as yellowish deposits within or beneath the skin. Dermatosis papulosa nigra presents as small, darkly pigmented benign papules, commonly affecting the face and neck.
Assessment and Safety
Every blemish is examined before treatment. A separate consultation is not normally required, as this assessment can usually be carried out at the beginning of your appointment. If a lesion has changed, displays unusual characteristics or I have any uncertainty about its nature, treatment will not proceed and I will recommend appropriate medical assessment. Small benign moles require medical confirmation before cosmetic removal.
After Your Treatment
The response and healing time will vary according to the type, size and location of the blemish. Some concerns can be successfully treated in a single appointment, while larger, multiple or more established lesions may require further treatment.
Temporary redness, minor swelling or light crusting can occur during the normal healing process. Full aftercare instructions will be provided following treatment to help protect the area while the skin recovers. Treatments are carried out at my clinic in Hedge End, Southampton.
