Winter skin treatments – I do love the home comforts that come with the colder months. However, as we get busy preparing for Christmas, we need to work a little harder to remember to upkeep our self-care and especially maintain a good skincare routine.
As the temperature drops, the weather changes, the air is colder and drier, and the needs of your skin will change with it, which means you need to adapt your skincare routine to match. You may be wondering what treatments would be best for your skin this time of year. This is where I can help and offer some guidance.
Two of the best winter skin treatments that I perform a lot over the colder months are Microneedling and Profhilo.
Microneedling
If you are someone who enjoys an anti-ageing treatment and one that thoroughly rejuvenates your skin, then microneedling could be an excellent option for you. It is also one of the best treatments for shallowing old (or new) scars, increasing collagen, creating an even tone to your skin, knitting together enlarged pores, and reducing stretch marks. 😊
Let me start by saying it is really not as scary as it sounds! I use a small motorised medical pen device that makes tiny little pinpricks in your skin, creating a slight controlled trauma. I also have creams in my bag of tricks, so you won’t even feel it! I also use a cocktail (not of the drinking variety!) of medical sterile solutions, which contain huge quantities of vitamins, hyaluronic acids, and amino acids, which your skin will just soak up in all their yummy goodness.
The reason microneedling is a great winter skin treatment is due to the lower UV radiation at this time of year so it reduces the risk of unwanted pigmentation. Your skin can feel a little warm immediately after treatment so the cooler temperatures of winter are a blessing.
This treatment helps improve the appearance of your skin. How I hear you ask? Well, the treatment promotes collagen and elastin production, which can give you smoother, more plumped, evenly toned, and more hydrated skin, which is often needed in winter.
Microneedling is a great part of any skincare regime, especially in winter. With so many benefits for your skin, some of which include;
- Reduces scarring
- Reduces stretch marks
- Can shallow enlarged pores
- Reduces redness
- Increases hydration
- Smoothes skin texture
- Tightens and firms your skin
- The appearance of pigmentation can be reduced
- Collagen and elastin production increases
- It makes skin appear more radiant and even-toned
- Promotes youthful skin
Profhilo
Another great treatment to have during the winter months is Profhilo, as it increases the moisture in the skin through its high concentration of hyaluronic acid. It is perfect for dehydrated skin and for plumping those pesky lines and wrinkles and keeping that all-important glow. Think of Profhilo as having the best moisturisers sitting under your skin for months at a time…beautiful! Profhilo is a year-round treatment, but I especially like it for the colder months for that added hydration, softness and radiance.
It is an injectable bio-remoulding skin booster treatment designed to stimulate four types of collagen. It’s definitely not a filler – it can’t add volume or change the shape of your face and it comes with no nasty side effects. Still, it has one of the highest concentrations of hyaluronic acid on the market……and why is hyaluronic acid great? Because it increases the moisture content in your skin, which has many benefits like reducing fine lines and improving the overall appearance of your skin. It effectively helps turn back the clock, which is something many of us would absolutely love to do! And now you can. Think of it as a complete skin rejuvenation treatment.
What are the benefits of Profhilo?
- Stimulates fibroblasts
- Increases collagen & elastin production
- Improves skin laxity
- Skin firmness is increased
- Luminosity is increased
- It provides deep skin hydration
- Improves overall skin quality
- Reduces fine lines and wrinkles
- Reduces skin imperfections
Profhilo has really great long-lasting results, it is a quick treatment and only requires two treatments, one month apart, and then your results should last for 6+ months. Now, how great does that sound? Great results and low maintenance, too!
